Summer at the ADKX

Summer at the ADKX

What's happening at the ADKX this summer?

Summer is here in the Adirondacks, the lakes are warming up, the campgrounds are open, and summer vacation is beginning. Our favorite ice cream stands are opening, and our favorite attractions are opening bigger and better than last year.

The Adirondack Experience, The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake opened over Memorial Day weekend. They have an exciting summer planned, but the real excitement is for the grand opening of the new exhibit on July 1! Artists and Inspiration in the Wild is the most comprehensive showing of the museum's art and decorative collections in its history. This permanent exhibit has been 5 years in the making, and the public finally gets to check it out on July 1!

A sneak peek

Artists & Inspiration in the Wild will feature more than 250 works across four main galleries that illustrate how the four main features of nature in the Adirondacks (water, light, forests, and mountains) impacted the visions of painters, sculptors, and artisans. Throughout the exhibit are interactives such as a ceiling projection, audioscapes, and physical sliders to show day or night and how an artist creates mood, and more.

During my sneak peek at the museum, I was most intrigued by the studio Barney Bellinger has put together in the exhibit. Visitors can enter the ADKX Art Lab and create their own artwork inspired by the Adirondacks. Barney Bellinger created the space himself, and filled it with objects from his collection. The ADKX Art Lab will also be a great space for workshops and other programs as well.
