Oxbow Lake

Oxbow Lake

Oxbow Lake is a very attractive lake whose eastern shore is heavily occupied. The western shore is all state land. The steep slopes of Oxbow Mountain to the west make for an interesting paddle along its shore.

How to get there

From the intersection of Route 8 and Route 10 in Piseco, follow Route 8 toward Lake Pleasant. Continue for 3.6 miles to Old Piseco Road (County Route 24) on the left. Follow here for 0.5 miles to the launch area on the right. Please be sure to follow parking regulations.

Paddling

This small lake offers some wonderful paddling for the entire family. The western shore is open to the public, making for some excellent opportunities to get out and stretch your legs. Be aware that motor boats are allowed on Oxbow Lake and on busy weekends it can be heavily used.

The launch is dirt and gravel, but has easy access for hand launching. Paddlers will have to carry less than 50 feet over a small embankment.

Oxbow is a well-sheltered lake and is very narrow in spots, allowing for protection from heavy winds. Winds, on occasion, do follow the length of the lake making for a slightly more difficult paddling.
