Barker Pond

Barker Pond

This pond isn't frequently visited, offering those who do hike here a chance to find solitude. Chances are your only company will be wildlife.

How to get there

From the intersection of Route 28 and Route 30 in Blue Mountain Lake, follow Route 28/30 for just under 4 miles to the access road for O'Neill Flow on the left. This access road is very rough and should be driven with extreme care. Follow it over Rock River and turn right at the next intersection, where there is a sign for Barker Pond. This next section of road has the potential to be slightly flooded by beaver activity so you may end up having to walk. The road dead ends at the trail for Barker Pond.

Hiking

From the end of the access road the trail will be on the right; just follow the arrow and trail markers. The trail is mostly flat but there is a slight descent. The trail is very new to the state's trail system so the tread is very soft and fresh. The trail ends at a wonderful primitive tent site with a small fire ring. A faint herd path will get you to the shore of the pond, where you can enjoy a bit of shore fishing.
