As winter ends, spring begins
Winter is still here! It is lightly snowing and the temperature outside is hanging on to 32 degrees. But, I will admit, we are starting to look towards spring. And for us, spring means cleaning up to be ready for a busy summer, and some local fun!
Community Pride Day
On Wednesday, May 3, 2017 communities in the area will take to the streets for what we call Community Pride Day. We will pick up trash and then gather for lunch, while wearing matching shirts showing our pride in keeping where we live clean. Shirts are made possible by sponsors who give $30 or $100 and all will be listed on the shirts. Participating communities are: Arietta, Big M oose, Blue Mountain Lake, Eagle Bay, Indian Lake, Inlet, Lake Pleasant, Long Lake, Morehouse, Old Forge, Raquette Lake, Speculator, Thendara & Wells. April is a quiet time in Inlet. Our schools take a two week spring break, and many use this time to get away on a much needed vacation. Once everyone returns, the local fun begins.
On April 29th, the Inlet Youth Commission will hold their annual Egg Hunt at 1:00 p.m. in Arrowhead Park for children up to age 12. Every child will receive a bag of treats and prizes will be drawn after the hunt. Then at 5:00 p.m. the same day, the Adult Egg Hunt will take place in Fern Park for children 21 & up. Prizes donated by local businesses will be hidden in the eggs (or a number will be inside the egg) and after the hunt everyone will gather at Screamen Eagle for a pot-luck meal and collect the prizes that did not fit in the eggs.
Fire & Pizza
The first Sunday of May is a day of eating. Seventh Lake House will host their annual Fire & Spice event. While many dishes are hot and spicy, there is somethign for everyone to enjoy, including cold beer, music by local musicians, and tequilla! Doors open at 2:00 p.m. And if you haven't eaten enough, stop over to Screamen Eagle for their annual Pizza Eating Contest. Admission includes a delicious buffet with NO PIZZA - save the pizza for the competitors! Doors open at 4:00 p.m.
