Explore the many miles of snowmobile trails in the Inlet area, and check out some of the most pristine scenery New York has to offer. Inlet is the gateway to the Moose River Recreation Area, a 34-mile corridor of state-owned land that is groomed each day and connects with trails in Indian Lake. It is referred to as a snowmobile highway.

The Town of Inlet/Webb system winds through forests, goes around lakes, and climbs along mountains on well-marked and groomed trails. All of our accommodations, restaurants, and services are easy to reach right via our trail system.  Please consider calling ahead to confirm operation times.

Trail Conditions:

The Webb/Inlet Snowmobile Trails will open on Monday, December 4, 2023.  Inlet groomers will occasionally report to the Inlet Information Office with trail conditions, which will be posted here and/or Inlet's Facebook page.

Report from the groomers:

  • Update on 11/28/23 - Groomers are out, packing down the 14+ inches of snow received overnight.  Hoping to start a nice base for the trails to be able to open on December 4th!

You can also check Old Forge's website and see what they have posted for conditions. The BEST places to go for trail conditions are: the Facebook group Snowmobile Conditions Big Moose/Old Forge & Inlet Area - in this group, the reports are from real people riding the trails; Inletsnow's Facebook page - local to Inlet, this page will share Town of Inlet and Inlet Barnstormers groomer reports.  They also own InletSnow.com where you will find a bunch of area webcams so you can check snow conditions live; ILSNOW.COM - this is Darin Harr from Indian Lake. He rides the trails in Indian Lake, Spectulator, through the Moose River Plains and into Old Forge as often as he can and also knows a lot about the weather.  Trail conditions in the Long Lake area can be found here.

Why the towns of Webb and Inlet are not snowmobile clubs:

As a provider of some of the best snowmobile trails in the east, we are in a unique situation here in the Old Forge/Inlet area. We have the only trails in New York that are owned and maintained by a municipality, and our reputation as the best is because we hire groomers who work 24 hours a day to keep the trails smooth when the weather cooperates. The towns of Webb and Inlet have considered forming a club and charging a small dues amount of $5, which in turn would have been forwarded to the New York State Snowmobile Association as per that organization's requirement of all recognized clubs. This small dues amount would have helped to offset the cost of the increased New York state snowmobile registration fees, essentially saying that the extra $5 would save $55 per snowmobile.

However, NYSSA has changed the minimum dues for all clubs to $25 per member, which is the amount that the two clubs adjacent to our trail system charge for their annual dues. So the towns of Webb and Inlet could not make it any cheaper for a snowmobiler to obtain the NYS registration by forming a club, and instead decided to support the two local clubs, the Inlet Barnstormers and the Trackside Blazers in Forestport, whose trails are adjacent to our trail system.

Also, our trail system does not qualify for any of the reimbursement from the New York State Snowmobile Trail Fund.

We hope the above information helps you understand why we must charge for our trail system to offset the hundreds of thousands of dollars the towns of Webb and Inlet spend each year to groom and maintain our trails. Thank you for riding with us!
